Places to Visit in Saigon

the real list, no fluff

Những nơi đáng đến

Not everything in Saigon is worth your time. This is the honest list — what's non-negotiable, what's worth a detour, and what the guidebooks overhype. Ranked by someone who lives here.

War Remnants Museum

Lịch sử không thể quên

Bảo Tàng Chứng Tích Chiến Tranh

War Remnants Museum

District 3Không Thể Bỏ Qua

The most important museum in Vietnam. Confronting, honest, and essential. The photo exhibitions are world-class — Nick Ut's 'Napalm Girl' is here in context. The Agent Orange section is devastating. Go early, give it 2 hours minimum.

Entry: 40,000 VND

Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM daily

Chùa Ngọc Hoàng

Jade Emperor Pagoda

District 3Không Thể Bỏ Qua

The most atmospheric temple in the city. Built 1909 by the Cantonese and Fujian communities. Incense smoke so thick it hazes the air, intricate wooden carvings, a turtle pond in the back courtyard. Arrive before 8 AM for the full meditative experience.

Entry: Free

Hours: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Jade Emperor Pagoda

Chùa Ngọc Hoàng khói hương

Reunification Palace

Ngày 30 tháng 4

Dinh Thống Nhất

Reunification Palace

District 1Không Thể Bỏ Qua

Where the Vietnam War ended. April 30, 1975 — the tank crashed through these gates. Preserved exactly as it was. The basement war room is surreal. The rooftop helipad where the last helicopters left. History you can walk through.

Entry: 40,000 VND

Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Chợ Bến Thành

Bến Thành Market

District 1Đáng Ghé

The symbol of Saigon. Yes it's touristy. The souvenir prices are inflated. The food court inside is excellent and surprisingly local. Go for the energy and the lunch — not for the shopping.

Entry: Free

Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Bến Thành Market

Chợ Bến Thành nhộn nhịp

Củ Chi Tunnels

Địa đạo kiên cường

Địa Đạo Củ Chi

Củ Chi Tunnels

Củ Chi (70km from city)Không Thể Bỏ Qua

Underground tunnel network where Viet Cong fighters lived for years. ~250km of tunnels, three levels deep. Crawl through sections. See the trap doors, the kitchens, the meeting rooms. The scale of human determination here is incomprehensible.

Entry: 110,000 VND (usually in tour price)

Hours: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Nhà Thờ Đức Bà

Notre-Dame Cathedral

District 1Đáng Ghé

French colonial cathedral built 1877–1880. All materials imported from France. Currently under renovation — interior closed. The exterior is still stunning especially at golden hour. Pair with the Central Post Office next door — the real hidden gem.

Entry: Free (exterior)

Hours: Exterior always accessible

Notre-Dame Cathedral

Nhà Thờ Đức Bà

Chợ Lớn — Chinatown

Chợ Lớn rực rỡ

Chợ Lớn

Chợ Lớn — Chinatown

District 5 & 6Không Thể Bỏ Qua

Most tourists never come here. That's a mistake. Four hundred thousand ethnic Chinese Vietnamese in a neighbourhood that smells of incense, sounds like Cantonese opera, and tastes like the best dim sum outside Hong Kong. Thiên Hậu Temple at dawn is unmissable.

Entry: Free

Hours: All day — best early morning

Phố Đi Bộ Bùi Viện

Bùi Viện Walking Street

District 1Đáng Ghé

Saigon's backpacker street. Neon lights, street-side seating, 15,000–25,000 VND beer, street food everywhere. Loud, chaotic, fun. Not where locals go — but a genuine Saigon experience in its own way. Best after 8 PM when the full chaos arrives.

Entry: Free

Hours: 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM
