Pro Tips for Your Trip
Start Early to Beat the Heat
Begin each day by 8:00 AM before the tropical heat builds. Saigon's temperatures climb to 33-35°C by midday, so cover outdoor sightseeing in the morning and save indoor activities for the hottest hours. Always carry water and sunscreen.
Use Grab for All Transport
Download Grab before arriving. Car rides cost 30,000-80,000₫ across the city and motorbike rides 15,000-40,000₫. Avoid street taxis. Grab motorbikes are faster in Saigon's dense traffic. The Cholon trip on Day 2 is best done by Grab (about 30,000-50,000₫ from District 1).
Master the Art of Street Crossing
Saigon's traffic looks terrifying but follow one rule: step off the curb and walk at a steady, predictable pace — never stop, run, or make sudden movements. The motorbikes will flow around you. Start with smaller streets and build confidence. Locals do this thousands of times a day.
Dress for Temples and Churches
Day 2 includes temples and churches that require modest dress — cover your shoulders and knees. Carry a light scarf or cardigan in your bag. Shoes must be removed at Buddhist temples. This also applies to the Jade Emperor Pagoda and Thien Hau Temple.
Carry Small VND Denominations
Most restaurants accept cards, but street food vendors, market stalls, and temples are cash-only. Carry 300,000-500,000₫ in small denominations (10,000, 20,000, 50,000₫ notes). ATMs are everywhere. Vietnamese dong notes are polymer (plastic) and waterproof.
